Recycling Of Cardboard
Introduction
Recycling paper and cardboard may seem
simple and has been around for a long time, several questions still remain for
certain types of packaging. Many end up in the trash - and vice versa! In fact,
some products made from paper or cardboard cannot be recycled, for various
reasons. Paper / cardboard represents approximately 19% of the residual
materials produced by a household in USA. What makes the 2 e material most
important to the waste plan after compostable materials.
Need to sort material
We often get rid of our paper, macaron boxes and cardboard packaging out of hand, without worrying too much about its impact. Several very soiled containers then end up in recycling, then others that are recyclable are thrown in the trash. But how to fix it? By making a simple first sorting at home! Always keep in mind that recycling paper and cardboard box with lid gives them a second life.
There is a lot of packaging that we
don't really know where to get rid of. So there are a few questions to ask
yourself before doing the action of throwing it away. We are therefore going to
demystify which types of paper and cardboard packaging are recyclable or
disposable.
Recyclable paper and cardboard
1. Multilayer cartons
Multi-layered cardboard is a packaging for food or drink, such as
packaging for juice , milk , cream , soups and broths , wine , etc. Did you
know that only 68% of this type of packaging is currently recycled in Quebec,
while 99% of these containers are recyclable?
2. Corrugated cartons
All corrugated (brown) cardboard used
to wrap or protect various kinds of products and goods is recyclable, such as
cardboard in cookie wrappers.
3. Newspapers, circulars, journals, magazines and books
Have you finished your reading? You
can give it to the next one, or you can put it for recycling.
4. Office paper
The sheets of paper used for the
printer or simply for writing are all recyclable. Put them in your recycling
bin without crumpling them. As for the shredded paper, you must put it in a
transparent bag before you dispose of it in your bin. The whole paper can also
be added to the same clear bag as your shredded paper.
5. The envelopes
Even with the small plastic window, regular
envelopes are recyclable.
6. Tissue paper
When unpacking your gifts, don't
forget to put the tissue paper in a recycling bin!
7. Brown paper bags
Paper bags, like those given to the
grocery store, are recyclable.
8. Egg cartons
These boxes can be recycled, without
the eggs, of course!
9. Boxes of tissues, cereals, laundry soap and shoes
All of these types of boxes need to be
unraveled and then put in the recycling bin.
Paper or cardboard packaging that cannot be recycled
1. The packaging which is metallized inside
The sachets, like those of Lipton
soups, have a paper layer and a non-separable metallic layer . They are
therefore not recyclable.
2. Coffee glasses to go (including lids)
Many glasses are made of cardboard,
but with a layer of waxed paper on the inside , which cannot be recycled. On
the other hand, some coffee glasses are entirely made of cardboard. In these
cases, they are recyclable. As for the lids, if there is an indication of code
number 6 (in a triangle), they go in the trash.
3. Frozen juice boxes, ice cream boxes and frozen meal boxes
These containers must unfortunately be
thrown in the trash, because they are often plasticized.
4. Cardboard with grease stains
All heavily soiled cardboard boxes can
be composted.
5. Laminated paper
All packaging with laminated paper is
not recyclable.
6. Padded postal envelopes
The padded envelopes (with plastic
bubbles) are the only ones that go in the trash.
7. Wallpaper and photo
These two products cannot be recycled.
8. Cardboard boxes containing aluminum or plastic
Cans of cocoa, peanuts and potato
chips (eg Pringles) do not go for recycling.
9. Packaging composed of various materials
Soft bar, chocolate, chewing gum and
pet food wrappers as well as bags of chips and cookies unfortunately have to go
in the trash.
Conclusion
In short, recycling paper and
cardboard reduces the mountain of waste and requires little effort on the part
of the consumer.
